PROJECT SUMMARY:

Enbridge is a multinational energy company headquartered in Canada.  It owns and operates pipelines throughout Canada and the United States, transporting crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids. Their expansive pipeline system is the longest in North America moving nearly 25% of all the crude oil produced there.

The primary objective of the Utility Power Upgrade Project was to install two (2) three-winding 230 kV power transformers to carry the site load and allow de-energization of the existing 72–4.16 kV substation.

The work included the installation of a new electrical services building (420-ESB), fabrication and installation of cable tray support structures, all associated civil works, cable tray systems, installation of 8,600 m of medium voltage cables, 154 terminations, low voltage power and control cables, and cable testing.  To enable the transfer of loads from the existing 72 kV–4.16 kV substation to the new electrical services building, the project required several tight timelines and critical path outages executed concurrently with other sites.
