PROJECT SUMMARY:
The University of Saskatchewan Preston Substation Upgrade Project consisted of upgrading all site equipment to migrate the facility from the current 72 kV primary voltage to 138 kV. Two (2) of the existing transformers were originally designed and built to operate on both primary incoming voltages. As part of Dynamo’s scope, we were required to change the internal tap configuration from 72 kV to 138 kV. This process involved draining the oil down to a suitable level to allow entrance into the tank to gain access to the HV links.
Once the oil was drained down, our apparatus specialist entered the tank, removed the corona caps, and modified the HV links to accommodate the 138 kV primary voltage. When the primary tap changes were complete, the oil was filtered back into the tank and a full set of as-left electrical tests were completed.
