PROJECT SUMMARY:
TransAlta Corporation is a privately owned electricity generation company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. It operates 75 power generation facilities consisting of wind, hydro, natural gas and coal across Canada, the United States and Australia.
Dynamo was retained to create a replacement design for a Hydro Generator remote terminal unit at TransAlta’s Spray Dam in Canmore, AB.
The existing RTU was an obsolete GE unit and TransAlta was interested in evaluating whether or not an SEL RTAC would be sufficient to replace functionality. Dynamo and TransAlta jointly evaluated the SEL RTAC and decided to proceed with replacement.
Dynamo designed and programmed the RTAC and completed the integration design for the demolition of the existing RTU and installation of the RTAC. The RTAC panel was constructed by Dynamo and installed by the client. Dynamo and TransAlta jointly commissioned the new RTAC successfully. The intention moving forward is to replace the existing RTUs in the hydro fleet with SEL RTACs.
